This is a fun cake to make for special occasions and it looks so pretty on your plate. It’s so good. It’s been a favorite cake of mine for a long time. I particularly like the explosion of flavor when I bite into a chunk of maraschino cherry.
I am happy to finally be able to post again. The absence was my own fault, I tried to add some things to the blog that didn’t work. I had no idea what I had done wrong and it wasn’t the simple fix I tried. I got mad at me, the blog and the rest of the world. But now I have back, most of what was missing, so here we go……Back to something I know more about, cooking and baking!
Cream Puffs have always been a super special treat for me. That started when I was a little girl and my Mom and I would go shopping and stop at a bakery/lunch counter type of store. Recently, I was visiting her and I asked her if she remembered our special shopping treat and at 94 years old, she immediately said yes. She has a very selective memory these days and I was pleasantly surprised she remembered. She just lives 5 miles from me in a nursing home, I came home and made these Banana Cream Puffs. This is an updated version of an old classic. No bake cookies are so quick and easy, I have made them often through the years when I get a chocolate craving. There is something about them that can’t be beat! I add potato chips for variation on the original, you just have to try them this way!
This bread is very moist and full of fruit. The glaze is out of this world!! I’m really not sure if it’s a quick bread or cake. Does it matter? It’s not as sweet as most cakes, it is sturdier and it is baked in a loaf pan, so I’ll go with quick bread. The other day, I had 4 very ripe bananas on the counter, the recipe just needed 2 bananas for a loaf, so I doubled the whole recipe and made two loaves. Glad I did, friends were over and one loaf disappeared!
Over the years I have tried numerous bread pudding recipes, I’m a huge bread pudding fan. I just love the stuff! It is a very comforting dessert…all gooey, creamy, sweet with bread and eggs. I remember the very first time I tasted it, it was at a restaurant while traveling in the South. I know it sounds corny but it really was, love at first bite! I started trying bread pudding recipes to duplicate that first one.
There’s no hunting for the cherries when you make these cherry turnovers. I think a good cherry turnover should be bursting with cherries. So…. I make my own filling. Problem solved!
